Course Description

Searching for the beauty around us through our cameras invites us to be really present in the moment, to be observant and to remember that we never know what is up around the corner. It invites in hope.

This isn’t just about photographing pretty shiny things and flower petals though (though they sure are beautiful). It isn’t just about seeing the positive and ignoring the negative or where we are struggling in our lives. It is about cultivating a practice of seeing beauty and noticing how healing that can be. We’ll be looking at our own daily lives and seeing the beauty in it too.

Searching for something beautiful to photograph, especially on the days when I am struggling, has been a lifeline and became a roadmap out of a depression. The simple act of seeking beauty around me helped me find the beauty within me.

This two-week course is an invitation to slow down, to take time each day to savor the beauty of the world around us. It is a photography exploration (and you may just find yourself falling in love with taking photos) but no special camera or experience is necessary. Just an eagerness to explore the world around you.
